Twins 9, White Sox 2

Yes, these are the Twins we like to watch play. Fielding well, and timely hits to drive in the "small ball" runs by those much touted "piranhas" and then the wonderful surprise of two power blasts.

The surprise was in the home run from Mr. Kubel. Mr. Kubel is one of these sleeper players the Twins hope will develop. I keep watching Kubel and hoping to see some signs of the hitting picture coming up in the developing tank - but the picture stays so cloudy and changeable. Its going to take at least a month run to convince me that this guy is worth the development he's getting. I hope the Twins are right.

Whenever I get on a rant about "what a bum this guy is" and "why the heck are the Twins wasting the space in the line on this *****?" - I am compelled to remember David Ortiz. In the last summer he spent with the Twins, when he was in the line up and not injured and entertaining his team mates, I would be praying that he would just strike out and not hit into the double plays he seemed to specialize in. I was so HAPPY when he left the Twins - and look at him now. Where was this hitter hiding the whole time he was on the Twins bench? I know that he says the Twins were trying to make him hit ground balls and just move the on base runners over - but if this was the organizations strategy - where did hitters like Puckett, Hrbet, Gaetti, Brunanski, etc come from? I think when Ortiz was dumped, he got mad. When he was lucky enough to be picked up by Boston, he listened to somebody and stopped goofing around and went to work as a ball player. I think the mistake the Twins made was in not getting on his case more and insisting he do the work required to be a major league hitter and to stay healthy. - phew, I needed to get that out of my system.
