Yes, and its Bonderman who will be mowing down the Twins, ahem, batters. The Twins, dare I call it, offense, today will be outfitted with licorice whips. Twins management hopes this will alleviate the problem of cluttering up the bases with all those base runners. Base runners who are just lost in space with no idea of why they are out there, or where to go once they are there.
Depending on Baker's performance, this afternoon could be just excruciating (we score our typical no runs) or it could be damn awful (we let the Tigers have batting practice; oh yes, and they score runs).
Listening to the coverage on the tv, Dick Bremer is trying to remind us what a Twins home run is. Well Dick, you should be reminding us of what a RUN is. Last night the Twins left FOURTEEN base runners standing on the bases with their thumbs up their butts. We had the base loaded at least three times and didn't bring a single run home!!!!! Of course the Twins out hit Detroit 10 hit to 6 - but we couldn't be troubled sending any of the runners in to score.
To complete the day - we have the amazing non-Kubel in the lineup. Oh yes, the outstanding peformance of the non-Kubel in last nights game. The non-Kubel at bat with that stunned deer in the headlights look, and his non-swings at three straight strikes, while three of the non-Kubel's team mates stood about on the bases twiddling about. The non-offense of the non-Kubel seems to be spreading through out the line up.
The most we can hope for today is that Scott Baker pitches a great game, whilst the Twins offense continues on its vacation.
The Bottom of the Sixth Inning
The Twins have strung three base hits together, with one out, to score ONE run. Yes, and then to close out the inning, we quickly hit into a double play to get out of the dangerous "runners in scoring position" problem. Now we have a one run lead - what to do? How long can this last?
Tops of the Seventh Inning
How quickly the Tigers have answered the "how long can this lead last?" It was about 5 minutes including the commercial break. The Tigers come up, hit a lead off double and then immediately get an rbi single. And yes, count themm no outs yet in the inning. Arghhhhh!
End of the Game
Was there any doubt how this game was going to turn out? Of course the Twins teased us along the way, but in the end the Tigers win, sweeping the Twins, at home and now nine games back in the central division.
